Harley Kruse is a leading Australian Golf Course Architect with over 30 years’ experience in the design and delivery of highly regarded and successful golf course projects throughout Asia and Australia. He is the principal of the golf course design company Kruse Golf Pty Ltd which specializes in high quality Golf Course Design and Golf Course Landscape Design.
Harley is the current President of the Society of Australian Golf Course Architects (SAGCA) He remains the only golf course architect to have worked for the design firms of Australia’s greatest male golfers Peter Thomson – Thomson Wolveridge& Perrett 1990 – 1998 and Greg Norman – Greg Norman Golf Course Design 2000 -2010.
The resultant design and construction experience over a great variety of terrain and landscapes includes more than 25 new 18-hole courses and a range of highly acclaimed projects from course remodeling, new private clubs, through to master planned resorts and profitable master planned residential golf communities as part of the Medallist development team. (a Macquarie Bank and Great White Shark Enterprises joint venture.)
Harley has been involved in the delivery successful large-scale golf projects in China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea and Vietnam. He lived in Shanghai for the delivery of the Binhai Golf project in 1999 where he was project manager and design associate for a 54 hole and real estate project, He was the designer of the Norman Course at Mission Hills, Dongguan as part of a 5-course mega project undertaken at one time.
Harley master planned, detail designed and did the construction visits on the critically acclaimed Dunes Course at BRG Danang, Vietnam. This course was voted the No 1 Best New Course Asia Pacific 2011 and the No 1 Course in Vietnam by Golf Digest USA. Industry accolades for Harley’s work on this project saw Danang Dunes featured in the book Planet Golf – Modern Masterpieces by Darius Oliver, putting Harley alongside several other of the world’s leading golf course designers.
It is Harley’s recent and highly successful remodeling of the prestigious Killara Golf Club on Sydney’s lower North Shore that has caught the eye and praise of many former golf professionals and industry observers. Particularly for his careful restraint of use, but fabulous artistic creation of stunning sand faced bunkers. All along with 18 new greens complexes and new tees offering great flexibility of length and course set up.Originally from Melbourne, Harley’s passion for golf course design and golf landscape started on the famed and classic Sandbelt courses and where he retains membership of Royal Melbourne Golf Club his favorite course on the planet, and where he currently serves on the Green Committee.
